Evaluation of the previous posts

In the last couple of posts I presented a variaty of the types of techniques used in class to help with persuasion.

A message from Sheriff John Bunell was attempting to make readers belive that Internet crime is a social problem and that although there are many advancements being made to help the police, it is still a concern. John Bunell being from a semi-national T.V show and a cop was a trustworthy canidate for the cause as well as an experienced spokesman because of his age, and his experience working with police officers on a variety of cases.

Aunt Rody was a humorous example of central route processing. in that passage I was showing the practice of taking both sides of the argument (A.) do nothing about online saftey. B.) become aware and get protection) presenting both sides, and than explaining why the second choice would be a better alternative than the first. Aunt Rody is somewhat aware of what is going on in terms of computers and it makes her evaluate what she is doing in terms of internet saftey.

Take my Survey was showing that I can make a survey and put it in a blog

Did you know was an example of how fear is used in terms of acheving a goal. I was carful to present this as a danger goal and not as just fear. I stared by giving examples of how Internet saftey is a real danger to people and that it can seriously effect your life if left untreated. I than let the readers know that this WILL HAPPEN to you if you do nothing. the third part of the blog shows how it is likly that this will not happen if they learn to protect themselves and the last part of the blog gives steps on how to protects oneself and the family while using the internet,.

Project Project was an example of Peripheral Route Prcessing and was designed to distract readers from the simple message so that the message is easy to remember and the point gets across easily.

A message from chris Hansen was another example of using an expert/a person who is easy to relate to as a spokesperson. Chris Hansen has seen his share of crimals and because he is not part of the police force/introduced many Americans to child preditors, he can be viewed as a hero to some people because he gots criminals off the streets and showed how cops catch preditors. The hope was that some poeple would be ammused by the Chris Hansen referance but at the same time would take it seriously because he his a respected source.

A Message from Sheriff John Bunnell

Hi Im Sheriff John Bunnell. you may recongnize me as the narrorator for the show WORLDS WILDEST POLICE CHASES!!! I relize after you youtube me and hear me talk you will read the rest of this short statement in my voice....I accept that. it is a small price to pay for me to inform you about the social problem that is ON...LINE....SAFTEY.....

Although Statistics say that problems such as Identity theft and breeching personal computer networks is going down, it still continues to be a problem in modern living. police across the contry are cracking down on these crimnals with an armada of new technologies and advancements in cyper tracking. as metioned earlier in this blog, cops can now use camera to track license plates to find wanted criminals for a variety of crimes. advances in computers allow the police to find information on crimnals faster than ever by having high powered laptops in the police cars linked to a national databass so that law enforment agents can figure out the patterns of criminals and find them faster. banks now have special scanners and require more identification when withdrawing money. computer tracking has made finding where crimals work easier. In the past, crimnals could go though an elaborate set of routers to through off the police, not anymore. today the police can find where you are using your computer from and everything on that computer in a matter of seconds. police officers are still known to occationally go online and pose as inexperienced users with the hopes of catching a thief surfing the web (in a similar manner that is used when searching for child predators).

Through The Years I have been though a variety of police forces, see countless people fall victim to these crimes, and have seen the devastation that computer hacking and fraud can cause to a family and to an individual. through technology, we will be able to help get victims lives back on track and to make identity theft and fraud harder to come by.

Aunt Rody

So by now you are probably very well versed in knowing what is safe to do on-line, how to spot if you are being targeted as a victim of cyper theft, and understand the procations that can be taken to prevent this from happening. You now want to do the next reponsible thing Inform others!! but as you are probsably well aware this can be difficult... this is a presentation of how a conversation between you and your beloved Aunt Rody may go and how to convince her to take the steps required to protect herself!

Find a friend and act out the parts. (I prefer to think of Aunt Rody having the Voice of Mrs. Broflofski from South Park, feel free to adlib!)

Aunt Rody: OOOOOOOOOO (insert your name) how have you been?

You: good Aunt Rody, how about you?

Aunt Rody: I'm doing fine, but did you hear about your cousin Sebastian? he was hacked while buying an assortment of exotic cheeses on-line! I am terrified to go on-line for fear that they might steal my Identity!

You: That is terrible!! do you know if Sebastian had on-line protection?

Aunt Rody: What What?

You: Many People like to Gallivant around the internet freely and rely on luck to get them around safe and without problems. although sometimes this works it is very easy to be caught by cyber criminals

Aunt Rody: Cyber Criminals? O heavens!!!

You: There are Crimnals that that prey on people online and use there inexperence to hack into there systems and steal personal information such as bank account numbers, social security numbers, phone numbers, E-mail addresses, and anything else that they can use.

Aunt Rody: But my computer is in the living room and I only leave it when I go to play bingo with the girls on Tuesday afternoon.

You: OH AUNT RODY!!!!!! they do not need to be in the house they can get into the system from there own house, the front yard, even while at startbucks, once they are in they can return whenever they want and the worst thing is that you would never know unless you are looking!!

Aunt Rody: Great SCOTTT

You: why did you just quote back to the Future?

Aunt Rody: Im just so flustered!!!!! I turn off my computer when its not in use, I try not to go to bad websites, and I usually have a good understanding of what is going on with my computer.

You: those are all good steps towards being activily engaged in your computers protection. Again....many people belive that if you do nothing, they will not find you and you will be safe. I belive that if you should be prepared for a cyber attack. install a firewall in your computer, always make sure to clear your cookies, alway ma...

Aunt Rody: Cookies? Im old dear... ENGLISH please

You: OH AUNT RODY!!!! Cookies are a digital fingerprint where you went while online. they store information that can be used by hackers

Aunt Rody: Thank you!!!

You: anyway... always make sure that you only shop on sites that are safe and secured, never give out your information on line, keep an eye on your bank account to make sure funds are consistent with purchases you've made. and in general be supicious of people walking around and acting sketchy. you never know when somone could be trying to steal your information or take advantage of your hard work.

Aunt Rody: sounds exausting

You: its not that difficult actually... although some people like to stand by and hope for the best, It is better to be safe than sorry.

Aunt Rody: I totally agree. that was a well though out message that was designed to appeal to central route processing

You: OH AUNT RODY!!!!!!!!!!

(Both laugh as generic 80's sitcom music plays in backround)

See you well you are protected!!!

Did you know?

everyday hundreds of people lives are ruined and thrown into shambles because of Identity theft, Scamming, and being taken advantage of due to technology. even worse is that many of these people do not relize that they are being targeted until it is to late and there is absolutly nothing that can be done about it. Cyber thives regulary use scanners to steal information form people just like you while your walking to work, driving your car, with your kids at the park, or even sitting here readingthis blog. without protection it is easy for crimnals to hack into your computer, phone, system, anythingthat holds personal information or value and for then to take it. you can stop being a victim by learning the facts about internet saftey, learning the signs of theft, scam artists, Identity Theft, keeping your computer on constant guard from attack, and knowing what to do when you are caught. by following these steps you can have a safe on-line life and not fear that your life, reputation, and future are at risk every time you log on.
